Firefox 6: Four Reasons Not to Upgrade

Thunderbird 6 is here. So far I have not received notification of the latest release of the Mozilla browser, but my wife is, so I think It 'only a matter of time. When I come to knock on the Mozilla gentlemen, although I'm not sure you want Firefox to get number 6.

The dust has barely settled on the last "major update" - but it is the product roadmap strategy Mozilla respect. In that spirit, here are four reasons why I would just as soon not download and install Firefox sixth

Firefox 4.2

There is something new or shocking about Thunderbird 6? Not really. There was really a major change in Firefox 4 version 5, either. In fact, that Mozilla has decided to identify as a completely new version numbers and release of fuss and fanfare a few weeks time is about the same thing the other browser vendors to do at least as often called "Automatic Updates".

To release patches to fix security flaws, or to correct defects can not be considered a new version of the browser. Even adjusting or adding a small feature or two does not justify calling it a new version. These are the things that tend to make gradually the amount - so that 5 is greater than Firefox 4.1 to Firefox and Thunderbird 6 is really just Firefox 4.2. Mozilla also knows why it wants to abandon the version numbering altogether so that it is not so obvious.

This is not a reason to avoid Firefox, but it is annoying separatist established standards for version numbering. And IT administrators trying to manage and maintain browser updates for hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of machines, for Firefox to launch a "new version" every six weeks is a nightmare.
Shooting star

Firefox has been declining for some time. And 'even after the property, and is still a market share of about 40 percent more of Chrome - Google's browser, but gained 5.5 percentage points since last September, while Firefox has fallen by 1.5 percent . Two of the browser has many of the same features and at the same time the general public, and Chrome is the undisputed leader of the street.

Of course we can not Internet Explorer. IE has been sliding as well, but still has a market share of 50 percent in Firefox and Chrome combination. IE has fallen by almost seven percentage points since September 2010, but Microsoft, I'd say the decline is semi-intentional.

Microsoft is an active campaign, asking businesses and consumers to abandon the old versions of browsers - especially IE6. At the same time, Microsoft's flagship browser later - Internet Explorer 9 - is limited to Windows Vista and 7-systems, which limits its potential audience of only about one third of all PCs. Because Windows 7 continues to gain ground and eventually affects Windows 8 IE9 the street (and ultimately IE10) will continue to gain ground.
Add-On

Google Chrome browser add-ons break - again. 5 If Firefox was launched, many users complained that broke-ons, which had worked well for Firefox 4 Firefox, which left five non-functional for users who rely on these add-on broken or mixed with the developer unless that are not updated.

A commentator's article PCWorld my peers Jon Mello, who praised the 6 Firefox reasons why you should download, it does not completely satisfied. MBGolferb5r4 said: "Of course, when you connect to the level it says it does not work with Norton A fairly big problem since I had to jump through hoops with the latest update to do work.. "

The good news, this reader is that Norton is likely to jump right in and aggressively developing the updated add-on that is compatible with Firefox 6 The bad news is that the new compatible version can only work a few weeks before 7 Firefox comes to break again.

Obsolete

This brand-new copy of Firefox you're 5? It is not updated. It 'full of serious security flaws that have never been patched since the browser is no longer supported by Mozilla. "Update", it is necessary to solve security problems is the "update" Firefox 6

Once you have installed Firefox 6, you have only a matter of weeks away from his planned obsolescence, when Firefox 7 - which is already in beta testing - is launched. Of course, if you rely on Firefox, and you can not switch to an alternative browser like Chrome you really have no choice but to "upgrade" or just leave your browser open to security exploits.

Of course, I'll download and install Firefox 6 when I finally get the message from Mozilla. But it's not because I have chosen, or because I think it's a precious thing to do. Only under duress, because it is the only way to make my version of Firefox is full of security holes.

I could only uninstall Firefox, but often all major browsers use different tests, as I write. I'll switch to Firefox with a gun to his head, although, like many others - that Mozilla should not be too excited about the millions of downloads or the rapid adoption of its browser better and when the fact is that users do not have much option.
